Snow

Well not a whole lot has been going on lately, Sunday we had the most beautiful day I think I have seen since I have been up here! The sun was out, it was warm, and it felt gooooood! Its amazing how much you actually take seeing the sun for granted when you see it all the time, but just like it always does, it is now back to raining and snowing. I will try to get some snow pictures tomorrow of the area if I have a chance to get off of the boat. I can not wait untill summer gets here and we have nice days all the time, I hear the first day for cruise ships is May 5th, so that will be a nice change to actually see normal people up here. Im not saying that Alaska people arent normal, but things up here are noticably different compared to the real world (the lower 48) we actually have a nic name for our town up here, and its Narnia, after the make believe world we all read about as kids. Its sort of a running joke around the boat, and the whole boat has caught on to it. Alaska is sort of its own little world up here, and you can only really understand it if you experience it... Hope everyone is having a good week, half way to the weekend! Take care!

wind wind wind

Well finally I am getting off my 4am watch, and its crappy out. 40 knot winds sustained and 60 knot gusts, so the rain feels like little rocks, that and the tides droped about 25 ft so I had to go outside to fix the mouring lines about 12 times (I'll video that sometime). I was hoping to play paintball today, buut its looking pretty nasty out, so we will see, guess I could just go buy a poncho or somethin. If not I think I may just layy around and be lazy all day. Hope yall have a good day! Leave a comment or two, I made it so that anyone can leave them now.. Take care

So there is me shooting with the grey hood, then I got a good picture of my buddy hiding out in the grass

Here are all the guys gettin stuff around before the games.. Then we run into the rain forest and start shootin!

Here are some more pics of last weeks paintball!

We usually have at least a truck full of gear each time we go, we buy stuff for people who dont have paintball guns so that they can come out and play with us, they get to play paintball, and we get more people to shoot, win win situation I think

Well finally after almost 3 months I am fully qualified, feels pretty good now that I am aleast done with alllllll of the basic quals that everyone has to do. Now its time to finish up my rescue swimmer stuff and start in on my Boatswains mate 3rd class qualifications. These might take a little while, but it'll be worth it when I make petty officer and get that nice little raise in pay! Well thats pretty much all for today, got duty tomorrow so I will be on the boat 24 hours, then paintball on saturday all day!!! Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Underway in the Bering

Here are some photos I have got from some guys of the boat underway, cant wait untill she is fixed and we can get back out there!

Survival suit swim

They call them gumby suits, i suppose its because you sort of resemble a red gumby character when you have it on. The water was about 34 degrees and they say that you can die in about 15 minutes give or take a few

This is the view of the city and a picture of me when when we went up deer mountain, was a lot harder to climb than I thought it would be

this is one of our small boats we use to do boardings

I wake up to see this everyday

3 months living in Alaska

Well its been about three months so far since I have moved to Alaska, and its a lot different than what I have been used to. Probably the worst part is the fact that this area is a rain forest and we get about 160 inches of rain a year, so it pretty much rains 6 out of 7 days a week. It actually took 3 weeks of me being here before I really saw the sun. I guess I am getting used to it by now, sometimes I dont even notice the rain, and the nice days are becomming more frequent. I have been told the summers up here are what make up for the dark depressing winters, so thats good I guess. Up above are some pictures of things I have done in these past 3 months I have been here, and there are plenty more to come.
